A major high street retailer is currently advertising a half carat uncertified round brilliant-cut solitaire diamond ring in white gold for £995, which appears to almost match our target price of £975 for a G/SI2 diamond ring as shown above. However, the same retailer also has for sale a half carat, round brilliant-cut, white gold solitaire ring, priced at £1,695, for which details of the certificated diamond are: Colour J, Clarity P1 (= I1). I leave you to draw your own conclusions, but this does illustrate the importance of understanding the 4 Cs, and of buying an independently certified diamond.
